Teak

What it is

Teak (Tectona grandis) is a tropical hardwood native to South and Southeast Asia. It’s famed for its natural oils that resist moisture, insects, and decay, making it one of the most durable woods available.

Why I love working with it

Teak feels like a luxury material with built-in resilience. It machines well, finishes with a natural glow, and adds golden warmth to every piece. Its ability to withstand moisture makes it especially appealing for kitchenware.

Key traits

- Golden-brown color with straight grain

- Contains natural oils for water resistance

- Excellent durability and stability

- Ages gracefully to a silver patina if left untreated

Where does it come from

Teak is imported from responsibly managed plantations in Southeast Asia. It is not sourced locally.
